Carve a Wooden Spoon from a Log

Carve an heirloom wooden spoon from a freshly fallen tree branch. You will use a combination of edged tools that have been in use for millenia, connecting you with craftspeople from around the world throughout history.

Class description

Just as craftspeople have done for centuries, you will learn how to turn a freshly fallen tree branch into a finished wooden spoon for the kitchen hearth.

Working directly from greenwood, you will carve a high-quality cooking spoon using a range of traditional hand tools, including hatchets, carving knives, a hook tool and the infamous drawknife. You will also learn the basics of sharpening your own tools along the way.

The entire process is completed using the same tools that have shaped woodenware for millennia.

This workshop is ideal for beginners, as well as those with some hand tool experience who want to step into the world of green woodworking.
