Class description

Suitable for the dedicated gardener who would prefer to do it themselves than to buy something new. In this course, you will learn to take recycled scrap metal and turn it into a set of extremely useful gardening tools.

This workshop encourages play; reimagining the discarded waste of this world and how it can become repurposed through upcycling.

Suitable for those with little experience with tools, you will use heat and a hammer to re-shape scrap steel into a leaf-shaped hoe and a small spade. You will then carve solid handles from recycled hardwood timber.

Great for those gardeners concerned about the climate crisis, but who also enjoy using their own hand-crafted creations.

All equipment & materials are provided for this class.

Suitable PPE is provided during this class, including:

  • Earmuffs
  • Safety glasses
  • P2 dust mask

However, if you’d prefer to wear your own, you’re most welcome to bring it along.

Tea, coffee and fruit will be provided.

Please bring your own lunch. If you’d like to buy lunch, there are a few shops located 5-10mins walk from the workshop.

What to wear

  • Please wear covered shoes - they don't need to be steel-capped.
  • Please don't wear particularly loose clothing e.g. baggy sleeves or long skirts. These present additional risks when working around lit forges.
